Flaunt It Friday: Your Guilty Pleasure
Everyone has one.
Be it shoes, clothes, video games, comic books or ceramic ducks. Every woman (*or man!) has something that they obsess over and collect dozens of multiples of.
That little something is your guilty pleasure. It’s that thing that you are always on the lookout for when you go shopping, when you travel, when you want a pick-me-up, whenever.
I’m not a huge makeup wearer (I do wear some), but my guilty pleasure is lip gloss. I love it. Not lipstick, not lip balm, but lip GLOSS. It could come in a pot, a tube, whatever. The more creative the packaging, actually, the more apt I am to buy it. I am drawn to shiny, glittery shades of red with with names like “Just Bitten” and “Seducing Nathan Fillion” and “Brick House”. If it has a rhinestone on the lid, a very tiny brush to apply or smells like cupcakes, baby, I am there.
I walk around the grown-up job feeling like I have Steven Tyler lips (I look nothing like him, in case you were wondering.)
I find myself at last count with something like thirty lip glosses. I hunt them in the grocery store. I browse them online. I steal them from girlfriends who “bought this, but just wouldn’t dare wear this color!” I even considered buying a lot of 50+ cosmetic store deadstock on Ebay.
So, what’s your guilty pleasure? What’s the one thing that you will always buy, that never fails to cheer you up, even if you have eleventy-billion already?

Okay, I’m a total nerd, I guess. Here’s my guilty pleasure:
binders and filler paper (college ruled). Also blank books.
Every summer I go home to the US to visit my mother and I inevitably return to Italy with a load of new binders and filler paper to put in them. The problem is that I have enough to last me at least a year or two with no problem. I just can’t resist the bargain prices in the US!
Same for blank books. I start using them, then stop, but I keep the books forever. ..sigh…
Oh, and pens, of course. But that’s more a practical matter. I teach, so I lose a lot of pens to students who forget to bring theirs to the lessons. And pens are mega-expensive over here, soooo…
Yeah. I know.
I have to agree with Ms. Menozzi. I love pretty notebooks and fancy journals. I have so many, most not even touched yet and I’m always fondling them when I go into the bookstores. I love getting them as gifts. I love having them on the shelves. I have one with a handmade hardwood cover, another one from Japan with leaves pressed into the rice paper, a handtooled leather bound one. Oh so many pretties. And I’m just as bad with notebooks, but they can’t be wirebound.
I’m drawing a blank. Other than books, I’ve cut out every guilty pleasure buying habit….
Unless you count almost anything in Target.
I guess that’s my guilty pleasure, dropping 10x the amount I intended when I walk out of that store.
Lipstick/lip gloss and shoes! Also perfumes…I have lost count but hey, I am in different fragrance moods depending on the day
Books.
Yeah, that pretty much does it. It’s my crack. Come to think of it, I have several books at home that need read.
April
Books. I love books. Ooh, and earrings. I love getting new dangly earrings.
I’m a knitter. Yarn and needles are my addiction. i have 10 bins of yarn waiting, and I keep my needles in a vase by my bed… a pretty bouquet of colorful sticks just waiting for me to get the urge to make something.
Pens, mechanical pencils, handmade paper and idea books. Love ‘em. I can’t walk into the damn Staples store without having a complete meltdown. Love that place.
I’m with April. Books. And more books. And more books. Any time I have a couple of extra bucks – it goes to books.
