Greetings! I’m writing this (slightly late) blog post on a rushed Friday night after working my “grown up job” all week. I know that a lot of you work at regular 9-5′s and are also trying to make it in the writing world. Some of you stay at home and have put in way more than a full day’s work when the last bedtime story gets read.

I work the day job (often into overtime hours), write about 20 hours a week, blog here (just once a week and I’m not complaining – I love it!) and I am crazy enough to have just wrangled myself into designing book covers for an up-and-coming e-publisher (I’ll post my first cover when I’m able – working on it now!).

What is it that keeps us going, clicking away at those keys even after we drag ourselves home from the office?
For me, it’s the escapism of writing – it’s a great de-stresser. I also like having multiple projects going at once, so that I always have something to work on – this helps me not focus on those submissions out there that I’m waiting on.

I love settling in at my desk on Friday nights with an evening cup of coffee or tea, ready to reclaim some time for myself and my various creative endeavors.

So here’s this week’s question -

Do you work a “grown up job” aside from writing, or are you a champion-hustle-bustle domestic engineer? If so, what keeps you fired up after those stressful errand/bill paying/kid wrangling days or long workdays?
